October 12th Monthly Meeting
We had at least 14 people show up for our monthly meeting, chaired by Dana De Master. Bob Barbosa, former Bicycle Advisory Board member and current District 2 Community Council Board member presented the Furnace Parkway issue (detailed above). We also had updates on Jefferson Avenue, University, Ayd Mill and the Saint Paul Greenway. We decided to table a discussion of 501c3 status and joining the Minnesota Bicycle Alliance until a future meeting.
We also heard how Saint Paul Public Works is looking for direction from the city’s Transportation Committee on what bicycle projects it should pursue. As a result, we decided that the next meeting, November 9th, should be devoted to prioritizing 5-10 easy bicycle projects around the city that everyone (including Smart Trips and Transit for Livable Communities) could agree were important and needed. We will bring a giant map of the city’s bike trails and the old BAB “gap list” (of gaps in city lanes and trails). We urge everyone who wishes to participate to come prepared with suggestions for places around the city where they see gaps that need to be filled …and to read the Bike Walk Central Corridor Action Plan (prepared almost entirely by non-cyclists). An excessively large (file size) version of it is viewable at— http://www.stpaul.gov/DocumentView.aspx?DID=12923
We hope to post the full minutes of the October 12th meeting (and all past meetings) on the website sometime soon. If you would like a copy of them contact Matt Cole, above.
Thanks for being a part of SPBC!
